Innovations TV Series Explores Cardiovascular Disease Research and Development in Upcoming Episode Featuring Detroit R&D, Inc.

DMG Productions discovers the latest breakthroughs in cardiovascular disease research and treatment.

Jupiter, FL— Innovations with Ed Begley Jr. announced today that it will feature Detroit R&D in an upcoming episode, airing third quarter 2016 via Discovery Channel. Dates and show times TBA.

Detroit R&D (DRD) is an NIH SBIR-sponsored company that specializes in the development and manufacture of ELISA, antibodies and assay kits for research, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease and cancer.

This segment will explore Detroit R&D’s efforts on development and commercialization of diagnostic hypertension ELISA kits (soon-to-be FDA-registered, BioTarget® clinical ELISAs) to solve problems of fast growing number of patients with full-blown high blood pressure which results in heart and kidney failures and stroke (the number of deaths from hypertension-related diseases has increased 61.8% from 2000 to 2013).

Hypertension affects nearly 50 million individuals in the USA and about 1 billion people worldwide but is an under-diagnosed condition because the underlying damage to the body occurs with only mild or no symptoms. Unfortunately, the cause of hypertension has been unknown in about 90 percent of reported cases. Use of the BioTarget® ELISA kits, which measure hypertension biomarkers, will reform the current approach of “trial and error” treatment (administering one to four of ~75 existing medications to see which one works).

Audiences will also learn about the opportunity to ameliorate coronary heart disease, insulin resistance and type-2 diabetes by targeted treatment of the P450 and soluble EH-dependent hypertension.

“Detroit R&D is making waves in the research, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes,” said Michele Nehls, Senior Producer for the series. “We look forward to enlightening the public on these amazing advances coming to light.”
